ABOUT beverly

Born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Beverly Valdez’ Caribbean background has had a profound impact on her life and her art. Beverly moved to the United States to study art at Howard University in Washington, D.C. There, she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, graduating summa cum laude. She continued her education at Howard and earned a Master of Fine Arts degree.

Beverly began her career as a graphic designer. For more than 25 years she worked as a Graphic Design Manager and Creative Director in the design and communications field.

In 2018 Beverly began painting as a full-time artist. Beverly has exhibited her artwork in several group and solo shows in the United States and in the Caribbean. Her paintings are to be found in collections in the USA, England, Canada and the Caribbean.

The color, energy, and vibrancy of Caribbean culture have been a constant source of stimulus for Beverly’s work. Strongly influenced by her Caribbean heritage, Beverly’s paintings are abstract interpretations of her Caribbean experiences, the rich traditions and the colonial architecture of the islands. Beverly works in acrylics, watercolor, and mixed media on paper, canvas, and wood.
